FOR ROCKETS INTO ROSES

Imagine hearing a frightening siren blaring “Code Red, Code Red” and having 15 seconds to run for cover.

Imagine never being able to walk beyond sprinting distance of the nearest shelter.

Can you imagine the fear and terror of a rocket whistling down, not knowing whether it will land a mile away or directly on your head?

Or the sudden shock when you feel the impact and the sense the relief that you’re still alive but the fear that your friends and family may not be so lucky.

Imagine if you were a little child and had to not only imagine all this but to live with this reality…

Portable shelters known as “Lifeshields” can be moved to where they are needed most, providing some solution to the lack of adequate underground shelters by offering both physical and psychological cover.

These state-of-the-art, free standing, portable, above ground shelters provide safety for Israeli citizens as they go about their daily lives. They are built to prevent the penetration of bullets, shrapnel and missile fragments and can withstand direct hits.

While building underground shelters can take months, these pre-form units take only a few weeks to build and can be delivered and deployed immediately.

Although these shelters cannot provide Israeli communities with peace, they can provide both safety and peace of mind.

‘Rockets into Roses’ is committing to building shelters to protect the citizens of Israel.

A portion of the proceeds of each item sold will be donated to the United with Israel Bomb Shelter Campaign.

FOR ISRAELI JEWELS

Help economically and socially disadvantaged Israeli citizens with your purchase of jewelry from our boutique collection. A portion of the proceeds from your purchase will be donated to the Yedid Association for Social Empowerment.

In a tastefully renovated 160-year-old stone building in Motza, a few miles west of Jerusalem just off the Tel-Aviv-Jerusalem highway, an innovative school is teaching the jewelry trade to an eager group of motivated Ethiopian immigrants. It’s the Megemeria training program. Taken from the Amharic word for Genesis, the school that trains the budding jewelry makers provides a new beginning for some 21 Ethiopian immigrants at a time, chosen for their artistic sense and propensity for precision work.

Many of the students came to the program with limited Hebrew and poor math skills, but through the Yedid Association for Social Empowerment that has been working on behalf of Ethiopian immigrants and some of the graduates that will even receive professional diplomas from the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Labor.

Before they were accepted to Megemeria, several of the students were working as house cleaners and security guards.  In a Catch-22 situation, few training programs were willing to take on people with little formal education.

For people like graduate Sanayit Bayana the chance to learn a promising trade with the assurance of a job has been a life-changing experience. She will now have a profession and can work and progress like everyone else.

FOR JERUSALEM MINT

The Ir David Foundation

Invest in the future of Jerusalem by purchasing a limited edition Jerusalem Coin from the Jerusalem Mint where a portion of the proceeds from your purchase will go to support The Ir David Foundation.

Ir David” or the “City of David”, is the actual location of the biblical city of Jerusalem captured by King David over 3,000 years ago.  The Ir David Foundation (Amutat EL-AD), a non-profit organization established in 1986, is dedicated to the preservation and development of the Biblical City of David and its environs.

When David Be’eri (David’le), commander of an elite military unit, first visited the City of David in the mid-1980s, the city was in such a state of disrepair and neglect that the former excavations that had been conducted in the area were once again concealed beneath garbage and waste. Inspired by the incredible archaeological significance of the site, and the longing of the Jewish people to return to Jerusalem after 2,000 years, David’le left his army career to establish the Ir David Foundation.

The Ir David Foundation is committed to continuing King David’s legacy as well as revealing and connecting people to Ancient Jerusalem’s glorious past through four key initiatives: archaeological excavation, tourism development, educational programming and residential revitalization.

The Foundation runs activities at three historic sites in Ancient Jerusalem: The City of David National Park, Armon Hanatziv, and the Mount of Olives, bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors to its gates every year.

Currently, the Israel Antiquities Authority is excavating three sites in the City of David, sponsored by the Ir David Foundation: “Givati”, the “Spring House”, and the “Herodian Road”. As excavations are completed, the area is opened to tourism to further deepen visitors’ understanding of its monumental past.  Additional educational programming geared towards Israeli students, adults and soldiers reconnects them to their history and heritage.

FOR JERUSALEM STONE

Please be our partners in the historic rebuilding of Jerusalem!! Portions of the proceeds from your purchase of Jerusalem Stone Treasures will be donated to the Jerusalem Reclamation Project which is dedicated to the strengthening the historical Jewish roots in the Holy City.

Jerusalem Reclamation Project is a non-profit organization located in Jerusalem, Israel. It was established during the Festival of Chanukah 31 years ago by Matityahu HaCohen Dan, a young, idealistic veteran of the Israel Defense Forces. The aim was, and still is to fulfill a generation’s old dream of rebuilding & securing a United Jerusalem, strengthening our Jewish roots and reestablishing thriving Jewish communities that are centered around educational institutes in and around the Old City of Jerusalem.

Today, there are over 60 Jewish families, hundreds of children, play centers, Yeshivot,

and Synagogues in the area close to the Temple Mount area. This is a small but flourishing Jewish community in the Old City of Jerusalem which one time had been the hub of Jewish life and activity up until the riots and pogroms of the 1920’s, 30’s and the War of Independence in 1948. A thriving Jewish community and a pulsating Jewish life was found throughout the areas that are known today as the Moslem and Christian Quarters (in fact, a Jewish majority existed in the Old City from the 1850s until the rioting in the early 20th century). Unfortunately, Arab hatred and the decision by the British to divide the Old City left us with a tiny portion of our Holy City. The glorious victory in the Six Day War in 1967 and our return to the Old City facilitated the building of a beautiful Jewish Quarter (13% of area). Yet we are still a minority in “Our Jerusalem”. We are back home, but a lot of work needs to be done.

Slowly but surely we are returning to all parts of “Our Jerusalem”. Just as the JNF has reclaimed land over the years throughout Israel, The Project redeems the land in and around the walled Old City.

Buildings have been converted to student dormitories; and Synagogues are once again seen throughout the Old City and the neighborhoods near the Temple Mount, the City of David and the Mount of Olives.

The Jerusalem Reclamation Project will continue to strengthen Jewish roots of the Old City and its environs through peaceful, tactful and legal methods. We, therefore, call upon each and every one of you to pray for the safety and unity of Jerusalem and to support the rebuilding of Jewish life within a “Holy and Eternal United Jerusalem”.

May Am Yisrael and the nations of the world be showered with Blessings from the Almighty.

FOR LEARN HEBREW

What a privilege to be able to learn a second language! Imagine children with special needs unable to master even one. A portion of the proceeds from your purchase of Learn Hebrew CD’s will be donated to Camp Shutaf.

Shutaf was founded in 2007 by two mothers, Beth Steinberg and Miriam Avraham, each parents to children with special needs, each frustrated by the lack of appropriate and available programs for their kids.

In the first year alone, Shutaf held camps during the Hanukah and Pesach school vacations as well as a 3-week August program in 2008.

Shutaf is a year-round, Jerusalem-based, informal-education program for children and teens with special needs. Shutaf is inclusive, committed to a teaching model that welcomes and includes all children – with and without disabilities – regardless of educational, religious and socioeconomic differences. Shutaf is modeling a unique type of co-existence for Israeli children, creating a special place of learning, of core Jewish and social values and happy times together.
